how we became josephine's
"I named my shop after my sweet but spirited grandmother, Josephine. Grandma Jo was a child during the depression and because of this she saved everything. She saved old buttons off shirts, tin cans, even JC Penny’s magazines to cut out clothing items to make me paper dolls, nothing was wasted. Her home was filled with classic vintage pieces that you just don’t see anymore. Her vintage home and passion for repurposing goods ignited my passion. I love using every little thing and finding a new purpose for it.
I opened Josephine’s at its first location in the summer of 2013. At the time, I was
desperate for a creative outlet; I knew I loved vintage and wanted to share that with others. I began with 800 square feet, five vendors, a few vintage pieces, and a lot of big dreams.
In summer of 2017 I knew I needed to find a larger location with better parking as we had outgrown our building. This is when I found our current location, 701 Bay Street. Friends and family helped me renovate over 15,000 square feet of shop in just three months. The response from the community has been more than I could have ever dreamed of. The move was definitely worth it.
Josephine’s is built on one core principal, community. If it were not for my community I would not be in the building I am today. My old location was off the beaten path and parking was a challenge. My community came out, purchased items from me, and helped spread the word about my little shop. I value each and every person who comes through these doors. I would not be where I am today without these people.
I hope you stop in sometime and explore my little dream. I appreciate each and every guest that comes through our doors!"
